Moniteau County Route U at Howard Creek to close next week for bridge deck replacement

Closure set to begin Monday and continue through November

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Moniteau County Route U, west of Jamestown, is set to close next week to replace the deck (driving surface) of the Howard Creek Bridge. Construction crews, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will close the bridge to all traffic beginning the morning of Sept. 15, and it will remain closed through the end of November. There will be no designated detour, but signs located well ahead of the closure will alert motorists to use an alternate route.

Built in 1968, the supporting structures of the bridge are in good condition. The driving surface, however, has deteriorated, is in poor condition, and needs to be replaced. In addition to a new bridge deck, crews will install new concrete barriers and place new guardrails at the bridge ends.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

As part of their December meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $1,098,248.50 contract to E & C Bridge, LLC for this project which included replacing the Missouri Route 179 bridge deck over Moniteau Creek. Rehabilitation work on the Route 179 bridge, also in Moniteau County, was completed in mid-July.
