SIKESTON—The Missouri Department of Transportation is partnering with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials to apply a High Friction Thin Overlay (HFTO) on four U.S. Route 67 bridges in Madison and Wayne Counties. This work is part of material testing, and HFTOs are utilized to extend the life of the pavement and provide a more skid-resistant surface.
Testing will be conducted on both concrete and asphalt sections of pavement. The locations set to receive a HFTO include:
- Southbound U.S. 67 over Little St. Francis River in Madison County between Route 72 and Route E (The concrete section will be south of this bridge.)
- Northbound U.S. 67 over Little St. Francis River in Madison County between Route E and Route 72
- Southbound U.S. 67 over Cedar Creek in Wayne County south of Route EE
- Northbound U.S. 67 over Cedar Creek in Wayne County south of Route EE (The asphalt section will be north of this bridge.)
Weather permitting, preparation will take place Wednesday, Sept. 10 and Thursday, Sept. 11, and the HFTO will be applied Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Wednesday, Sept. 17.
During the installation, U.S. 67 will be reduced to one lane in the vicinity of the work. As each section is completed, the lane will reopen in that location. The application will take two days to complete in entirety.
The test deck will be monitored by MoDOT for three years, and the data collected will be available for use by all the member states and is paid for by the product manufacturer.
