Upcoming Bridge Replacement Projects in Cape Girardeau County

Notice of Opportunity for Public Meeting

SIKESTON—The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to replace two bridges in Cape Girardeau County located on Route 25 and Route 61.

The projects include: 

  • Replacing the Route 25 bridge over LRDD Drainage Ditch 25, located just east of the Route NN intersection near Arbor, Missouri. The bridge will be replaced with a box culvert that is wider than the existing structure.
  • Replacing the Route 61 bridge over Erlide Creek, located between County Road 506 and Achillea Lane near Old Appleton, Missouri.

Work to improve the bridges could begin as early as spring 2026. During construction, the roadway will be closed in the vicinity of each bridge for approximately three months.

Maps, plans, and other information prepared by the Missouri Department of Transportation will be available for public inspection and copying at MoDOT’s Sikeston District office, 2675 N. Main St. in Sikeston, Missouri.

Any person affected by these projects may request that a public meeting be held in regard to the proposed improvements. Requests for a public meeting shall be in writing and must be submitted to Assistant District Engineer Jason Williams at 2675 North Main St., Sikeston, MO 63801, by Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025.
