ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The intersection improvement project on U.S. Route 59 and Missouri Route 752 (Alabama Street) in St. Joseph recently experienced delays due to concerns with the existing subgrade, the ground beneath the roadway, on Alabama Street. Crews from Amino Brothers Co., Inc, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, resumed active work on the roadway today, Thursday, Aug. 21.
Crews are now stabilizing the subgrade before completing the remainder of the work in Stage 1 on Alabama Street between Route 59 and Sherman Street. This stage will realign Alabama Street on the east side of Route 59. It will also create right turn lanes to and from Route 59 to Alabama Street. To view a graphic of Stage 1, click here.
Traffic Impacts: During Stage 1, Alabama Street between Route 59 and Sherman Street will be closed. Access to Lake Avenue and Brown Street will also be closed. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route.
Crews are scheduled to work Monday-Friday during daylight hours. Stage 1 is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025. Details for Stage 2 will be shared ahead of a staging change.
