Where: Missouri Route 171 at Missouri Route 96 in Jasper County west of Carthage
When: 6 a.m., Thursday, August 21 through noon, Friday, August 29 and again 6 a.m., Tuesday, September 2 through 6 p.m., Friday, September 5
What: Contractor crews setting girders for new Route 96 bridge over Route 171
Traffic Impacts:
- All lanes of Route 171 CLOSED at Route 96 between August 21-29 and again September 2-5
- All lanes of Route 171 OPEN at Route 96 during Labor Day weekend
- Traffic will be diverted up and over Route 171 on- and off-ramps in both directions
- Drivers should expect slowed traffic and delays
- Drivers urged to find alternate routes
- Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the closure
- Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts
Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.
This work is part of the project to replace the Route 96 bridge over Route 171 with a new bridge that is slightly higher and 12 feet longer than the current bridge. The $2.8 million project is scheduled to be completed by November 19, 2025.
