CAIRO – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that the U.S. 60/62 bridge over the Mississippi River at Cairo will be closed to all traffic for scheduled safety inspections.
The bridge, which connects Alexander County, Ill., to Mississippi County, Mo., will be closed daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning, weather permitting, Monday, Aug. 11, through Friday, Aug. 15, and again from Monday, Aug. 18, through Friday, Aug. 22.
The closures are necessary to perform the required annual safety inspection of the structure.
Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during these closures. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
