Route 97 Bridge Over Horse Creek to CLOSE Week of Aug. 11 for Replacement

Cedar County – Contractor crews are set to CLOSE the Missouri Route 97 bridge over Horse Creek north of Jerico Springs until mid-November beginning the week of August 11 to replace the bridge, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Crews will demolish the existing bridge and replace it with a new structure. In addition, the contractor will add new barrier walls, guardrail at the ends of the bridge and new permanent striping.

The bridge also will be widened by four feet to a total of 24 feet to accommodate two 12-foot-wide lanes.

This bridge was built in 1954 and is in a deteriorating condition. Approximately 780 vehicles cross the bridge daily.

Traffic Impacts:

  • All lanes of Route 97 will be CLOSED over Horse Creek until mid-November
  • Drivers will have access to driveways and entrances on either end of the work zone, but will not be able to drive through the work zone
  • Drivers will be directed along a signed detour using Cedar County routes E, NN and B
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • Drivers should consider alternate routes during the project
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.
