ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Leavenworth Excavating & Equipment Company, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, plans to close the ramp and acceleration lane on southbound U.S. Route 71 to southbound Interstate 29 in Andrew County on Monday, July 28.
This project will lengthen the acceleration lane onto southbound I-29, allowing oncoming traffic more time to merge onto the interstate.
Traffic Impacts: During construction, there will be no access to southbound I-29 from Route 71. A signed detour will be in place guiding motorists from southbound Route 71 to southbound I-229 to Route K to northbound I-229 to southbound I-29 (Exit 14A). Traffic on I-29 will also be reduced to one lane beginning at the intersection of I-29 and I-229 (Exit 56B) through the work zone.
The project is scheduled to be completed by October 2025. All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
