Newton County – Drivers should expect reduced lanes and traffic delays on southbound I-49 near Mile Marker 34.6 north of Neosho where contractor crews will be working to repair a bridge beginning Friday, August 1, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Contractor crews will be repairing the David Road bridge over I-49 which was struck by farm equipment back on March 7. David Road has been reduced to one lane over I-49 since the incident.
Traffic Impacts:
- Drivers will encounter reduced lanes on southbound I-49 at Mile Marker 34.6 around the clock until repairs are completed
- David Drive over I-49 is reduced to one lane with all traffic shifted into westbound lane around the clock until repairs are completed
- Maximum load permitted on David Drive bridge is 40,000 pounds
- Drivers should expect slowed traffic and delays on southbound I-49
- Drivers are asked to be aware of crews and equipment working close to traffic on southbound I-49 and are encouraged to find alternate routes
- No signed detours
- Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
- Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts
Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.

- Project Cost: $349,000
- Project Completion Date: November 1, 2025 (however, contractor expects to be finished much earlier)
