MoDOT to close I-64 North Outer Road bridge at Dardenne Creek for replacement starting August 11

ST. CHARLES COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will close the Interstate 64 North Outer Road/Technology Drive bridge at Dardenne Creek starting Monday, August 11. The outer road and bridge are expected to remain closed through 2025. All work is weather permitting.

This project is a joint effort between the City of O'Fallon, Great Rivers Greenway, and MoDOT. The reconstruction effort will include a 12-foot-wide shared use path facility across the bridge structure. The planned 10-foot path sections would then be connected to the parking lot area and existing paths. This connection is a vital part of the overall regional connectivity for Great Rivers Greenway through St. Charles County with ultimate connectivity planned to the Katy Trail.

In order to construct the new bridge further out of the floodplain of Dardenne Creek, the outer road elevation needs to come up 5-6 feet for the new bridge which doesn’t allow for temporary staging to maintain traffic, but rather a full closure.  This will allow the contractor to work safely and shorten the timeline of construction.

The North Outer Road/Technology Drive traffic will have a signed detour utilizing I-64 between the Highway K and Winghaven interchanges, but local traffic will likely find alternatives that best suit their needs.
