MoDOT to Hold Public Meeting to Discuss Route 67 Intersections at Cherokee Pass in Madison County

U.S. 67 Intersections at Routes A and C

SIKESTON-The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 to discuss intersection improvements on U.S. Route 67 at Routes A and C in Cherokee Pass. The meeting will be held at the Cherokee Pass Fire Department at 1030 County Road 333 in Fredericktown, Missouri.

The project includes removing the current median crossovers on U.S. 67 at Routes A and C and installing J-turns.

“During the meeting, we will share two alternatives for J-turns at these intersections,” said MoDOT Project Manager Chris Crocker.

With a J-turn, motorists will no longer cross fast-moving lanes of traffic. Drivers at a J-turn intersection turn right in the same direction of traffic, merge into the left lane, and then make a U-turn in the direction they intend to travel.

Crocker explained this is a safety improvement project.

“J-turn intersections have been shown to reduce right angle crashes, also known as T-bone crashes. This crash type is most responsible for fatalities and serious injuries at intersections,” he said. “In fact, J-turns at similar intersections throughout Missouri and the nation have shown a substantial decrease in fatal and serious injury crashes.”

Tentatively, the project is expected to be let in March 2026. Construction could begin as early as May 2026. Completion is anticipated by early 2027.

The public meeting will be open house style, and visitors can stop-by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the details of the project with the project team.
