MoDOT to narrow Interstate 70 lanes at the I-70/I-64/U.S. 61 interchange starting Monday, July 21

ST. CHARLES COUNTY – Crews with the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project will be narrow lanes of eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 at the I-70/I-64/U.S. 61 interchange starting Monday night, July 21. All work is weather permitting.

The far-left and center lane of eastbound I-70 will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. During non-working hours, two eastbound I-70 lanes will remain open. All westbound I-70 lanes at the interchange will remain open, but with reduced 11-foot lanes. All entrance and exit ramps at the interchange will remain open at this time.

Crews will be working behind barrier wall to begin the construction of the new bridges for the new I-70/I-64/U.S. 61 interchange. The speed limit in this work zone will be reduced to 55 miles per hour. These restrictions will remain in place through fall 2026.

This work is part of the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project covering the eastern portion of I-70. It was awarded in November 2024. Construction is tentatively set to take place 2025-2028.

Missouri’s FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and signed into law by the governor, provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
