MoDOT to keep exit lane from NB I-270 to WB I-44 closed indefinitely

ST. LOUIS – After inspection, the Missouri Department of Transportation will keep the right lane of northbound Interstate 270 over Interstate 44 closed for the foreseeable future after a piece of equipment struck a girder on the I-270 bridge over I-44 Wednesday evening.

Bridge engineers evaluated the extent of the damage today and were unable to reopen the lane due to safety concerns.  The department is currently evaluating options for repairs and will share more details as they are available.

The northbound I-270 right lane closure begins after the exit ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound I-44, which remains open. The westbound I-44 exit ramp also remains also open, but with a reduced exit lane length due to the girder damage.

Drivers can anticipate slow traffic in this area, especially during evening rush periods.  They should consider alternate routes or allowing extra time. Drivers can also check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for up-to-date traffic and travel info at: http://traveler.modot.org/map/.
