JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Rehabilitation work on the U.S. Route 54 overpasses over Linden Drive and Stadium Boulevard in Jefferson City is ahead of schedule and expected to wrap up this week. However, a different portion of U.S. Route 54 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction as crews move to the next bridge in this multi-bridge project.
Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation anticipate completing rehabilitation work the week of July 7 on the overpass bridges over Linden Drive and Stadium Boulevard and the Madison Street on-ramp. They will then move to rehabilitate the U.S. Route 54 bridge over Business Route 50 (Missouri Boulevard).
Weather permitting, the evening of July 14, traffic on U.S. Route 54 over Missouri Boulevard will narrow to one lane in each direction. For the first phase of work, the left (passing) lane will be closed and all traffic pushed into the right (driving) lane. For the safety of motorists and after consulting with our first responder partners, two ramps will be closed during this phase:
- Eastbound U.S. Route 50 off-ramp to westbound U.S. Route 54.
- Missouri Boulevard on ramp to eastbound U.S. Route 54.
As with the previous bridge work, traffic delays on U.S. Route 54 could stretch for several miles at peak daily commute times and weekend travels. The 11-foot width restriction and reduced speeds will be in place. These impacts are expected through early September. While most vehicles – including boats and RVs – are 8-feet, 6-inches, or narrower, anything wider than the legal width of 8-foot-6-inches requires an over-dimension permit from MoDOT’s Motor Carrier Services.
All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.
