Route 21 in Iron County Closed for Rock Excavation at Royal Gorge

SIKESTON—Route 21 in Iron County will be closed as contractor crews perform rock excavation and make drainage improvements.

This section of roadway is located from Route AA to Route CC at Royal Gorge near Ketcherside Mountain Conservation Area. The roadway will be open to local traffic only.

Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, July 7 through Wednesday, Aug. 20. The work zone will be in place 24 hours daily.

A signed detour will be in place on Route 49 and Route N to navigate around the closure.

Following the rock excavation, an overlay will be completed as part of the project to widen four horizontal curves and make improvements at Royal Gorge. Completion of the project is anticipated this October.

The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
