JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – In March 2025, contractors from S & A Equipment and Builders, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, began a project to rehabilitate the bridge on Missouri Route 8 over the Union Pacific Railroad, south of Potosi. They narrowed the bridge to one lane with temporary signals in place to direct traffic.
MoDOT, our contractors, and partners at Union Pacific Railroad, are working together to ensure the project is completed safely, with a well-constructed, long-lasting product. There have been work stoppages, but the contractor is back to work on the bridge rehabilitation. The new expected completion timeframe is not yet known, but work will likely continue past the original September 2025 end date.
MoDOT recognizes this has been hard on the traveling public, local residents, and the single open lane on the bridge – which is experiencing more wear and tear than anticipated. Crews are monitoring and repairing that open lane as issues arise.
Safety is MoDOT’s highest value and we are committed to ensuring that everyone – workers, contractors and travelers – go home safely at the end of the day.
