Springfield – Those interested in the Melville Road Bridge Replacement Project over I-44 in Springfield are invited to a public meeting to discuss the traffic impacts during construction and project information on Tuesday, July 1, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The come-and-go style meeting will be held 4:30 – 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 1, at the Library Station: Santa Fe Community Room, 2535 N Kansas Expressway, Springfield. No formal presentation is planned. Those who attend may come at any time between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to learn about the project and ask questions.

Project Summary:
- Replace the Melville Road (Farm Road 127) bridge over I-44 in Springfield
- New bridge will be widened from 26 feet to 47 feet, 8 inches
- New bridge will include an 8-foot multi-use path
Traffic Impacts for Melville Road Bridge:
- Melville Road Bridge (Farm Road 127) CLOSED over I-44 in Springfield for up to 140 days during construction
- Norton Road will be closed for up to four weeks during construction
- Drivers will have access to entrances at either end of the bridge, but will not be able to drive through the work zone
- Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the closure
- Drivers urged to find alternate routes. Detour routes include: West Bypass (Route 160), Kearney Street (Route 744), Kansas Expressway (Route 13), Norton Road
Traffic Impacts for I-44:
- I-44 CLOSED for up to 2 days during a weekend as crews remove the bridge structure
- Drivers urged to find alternate routes. Detour routes include: U.S. Route 60 (James River Freeway), U.S. Route 65, I-44
- Electronic message boards located near the planned road work will alert drivers to any changes in the work schedule
- Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closures/traffic impacts
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, July 7, 2025.
Contractor: Hartman & Company, Inc., Springfield
The estimated project cost is $5.1 million and is a cost share with the City of Springfield.
The project is scheduled for completion on December 31, 2025.
