JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – The planned closure of the Moniteau County Route U has been postponed. Originally scheduled to close Monday, June 23, the bridge over Howard Creek will now undergo rehabilitation work in late summer – more details to come closer to the start.
Built in 1968, the supporting structures of the bridge are in good condition, however the bridge deck as deteriorated, is in poor condition, and needs to be replaced. The planned work will extend the lifespan of the bridge and includes replacing the bridge deck, installing new concrete barriers on the bridge, and placing new guardrail at the bridge ends.
As part of their December meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $1,098,248.50 contract to E & C Bridge, LLC for this project which includes replacing the Missouri Route 179 bridge deck over Moniteau Creek. The Route 179 bridge, also in Moniteau County, closed May 19 and is expected to open by the end of July.
All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
