JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – The nearly 60-year-old bridge over Howard Creek on Moniteau County Route U will close soon for a bridge deck replacement project. The bridge has been routinely maintained but has not had any major rehabilitation since it was opened in 1968. The supporting structures of the bridge are in good condition, however the bridge deck as deteriorated, is in poor condition, and needs to be replaced.
Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to close the bridge to all traffic beginning the morning of June 23 to replace the bridge deck (driving surface), install new concrete barriers on the bridge, and place new guardrail at the bridge ends. The bridge is expected to remain closed through August. Motorists will need to use an alternate route during the bridge closure.
As part of their December meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $1,098,248.50 contract to E & C Bridge, LLC for this project which includes replacing the Missouri Route 179 bridge deck over Moniteau Creek. The Route 179 bridge, also in Moniteau County, closed May 12 and is expected to open by the end of July.
All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
