JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – U.S. Route 54 over the Neighorn Branch, south of Jefferson City, will narrow to one lane in each direction in mid-June. Traffic will shift to a head-to-head configuration for the duration of the bridge project, which includes replacing the eastbound bridge and rehabilitating the westbound bridge.
Work will begin with replacing the eastbound U.S. Route 54 bridge over the Neighorn Branch which will require U.S. Route 54 to narrow to one lane in each direction and all traffic will shift onto the westbound lanes in a head-to-head configuration.
Crews will begin work on June 16, but it will take several days for crews to place all traffic control devices. During this time there may be some nighttime single-lane closures.
The around-the-clock traffic shift is expected to be fully in place the week of June 23. While Route CC, Shepherd Hills Road and Wooded Hills Lane will remain open during construction, there will be turning restrictions:
- Existing median crossovers closed at Route CC, Shepherd Hills Road and Wooded Hills Lane.
- Route CC:
- No access from U.S. Route 54 eastbound to Route CC.
- No access from Route CC to either direction of U.S. Route 54.
- Shepherd Hills Road/Wooded Hills Lane intersection:
- No access to or from westbound U.S. Route 54 at Shepherd Hills Road.
- No access to or from eastbound U.S. Route 54 at Wooded Hills Lane.
A 14-foot width restriction and speed reductions as low as 45 mph will be in place through the work zone. Following the replacement of the eastbound bridge, the contractor will rehabilitate the westbound bridge. All work is scheduled to be complete, and traffic patterns restored to normal, in early-November.
All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
