JEFFERSON COUNTY- The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) invites the public to an open house-style meeting to discuss the proposed safety improvements on Route 30 in Jefferson County. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 24, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Cedar Hill Elks Lodge, 8430 Industrial Dr, Cedar Hill, MO 63016.
These improvements are a part of the vital effort of the regional Safety Improvements Project in the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County, and Jefferson County.
During the last five years, there were 1,620 crashes within a 20-mile stretch of Route 30 in Jefferson County from Route Y to Old Sugar Creek Road. MoDOT’s plan is to reduce crashes, especially those that result in serious or fatal injuries, at various locations along Route 30 by installing several different types of safety improvements. Some of these improvements will be familiar, such as retroreflective backplates, LED stop signs, and chevrons along curves. However, traffic calming improvements, such as narrow travel lanes, may look different to most people coming through this area. These improvements are an extension of the $52 million Safety Improvements Project.
This project involves installing several types of improvements, and the public will be able to learn more about these proposed safety features at the public meeting. One improvement involves gradually widening the centerline pavement marking throughout a curved roadway by narrowing the travel lanes by two feet to encourage drivers to slow and pay attention along steep curves. MoDOT began installing various traffic safety improvements, such as stop signs with flashing LEDS and retroreflective backplates on traffic signals during the initial phase of construction in 2024.
CMS boards and yard signs will also be in place with details about the public meeting.
No formal presentations will be made during the open-house meeting. Attendees can stop by during the meeting to view the project details and speak with MoDOT representatives and project consultants.
Access for people with disabilities is available. Those who require special services at the public meeting should notify Senior Communications Specialist Rachel V. Sudduth by Tuesday, June 17, at 314-343-7731 so arrangements can be made.
