Washington County Route C over Big River closed for bridge replacement

Road closed May 27 through September 2025

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Washington County Route C over Big River closed today, May 27, 2025, for a bridge replacement project. Construction crews, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, closed the bridge to all traffic this morning and expect it to remain closed through September. During the closure, a signed detour is in place directing motorists to use Missouri Route 21, Missouri Route 8, and Washington County Route P.

Built in 1934, the bridge is nearing the end of its life cycle. The new structure will be up to current standards with a wider, raised bridge deck, new alignment, and upgraded approaches. These changes will improve the drivability and safety for motorists.

As part of their March meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $2,088,206.38 contract to Robertson Contractors, Inc. to complete the project.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
