JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Upgrades to the intersection of Missouri Route 87 and Moniteau County Route C are set to get underway in early June. The intersection will remain open throughout the construction of a roundabout but will have lane closures with flaggers directing motorists through the work zone.
The current intersection of Route 87 and Route C has a long history of fatal and serious injury crashes that have continued despite the implementation of several traffic control safety measures. After evaluating potential maintenance requirements, traffic patterns, location, and cost associated with various options along with community input, MoDOT moved forward with a non-signalized intersection.
Starting June 2, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to begin building the roundabout. Work will take place Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., through fall 2025.
All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $1,467,994.56 contract to S & A Equipment & Builders, LLC for the project. The most up-to-date information about the ongoing work near High Point can be found at https://www.modot.org/projects/missouri-route-87-and-route-c-intersection-improvements-moniteau-county.
MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones. Motorists are advised to use extra caution through work zones, obey all traffic signs, and avoid any distractions.
