Where: Kearney Street between Boonville Avenue and Robberson Avenue in Springfield
When: Wednesday, May 28
What: This is part of the Missouri Route 744 and Kearney Street Corridor Upgrades Project in Greene County. Crews will turn on the two new HAWK (High Intensity Activated Crosswalk) signals on Kearney Street.
HAWK signals are traffic signals that allow pedestrians to cross the road safely. Unlike traffic signals, the HAWK only operates when a pedestrian pushes the crossing button. Motorists should respond to yellow and solid red lights in the same manner as any other traffic signal. After stopping for the red light, motorists may proceed through the crossing area during the flashing red light interval only when safe to do so without risk to pedestrians. Check out this HAWK signal educational flyer created by the City of Springfield, found here.
