ST. CHARLES COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will begin construction of a new auxiliary lane on Route 61 near the Interstate 70/Interstate 64 interchange in Wentzville as part of the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project starting Thursday, May 29. All work is weather permitting.
The right lane of both northbound and southbound Route 61 will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Pitman Avenue to Route A. The right shoulder will also be closed around the clock to allow for construction of the auxiliary lane. This work is expected to be completed in September 2025.
Crews will also be working on grading at the I-70/I-64 interchange nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project covering the eastern portion of I-70 was awarded in November 2024. Construction is tentatively set to take place 2025-2028.
Missouri’s FY2024 budget from the General Assembly signed into law by Governor Parson provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue for the costs to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
