Clinton County I-35 crossover construction set to begin May 19

Interstate 35 from Shoal Creek to Route 116, and Route 69 in Clinton County

St. Joseph, Mo. – A project to rehabilitate Interstate 35 and widen U.S. Route 69 in Clinton County will begin today, Monday, May 19. The Missouri Department of Transportation is working with Michels Road & Stone for the project.

I-35 (from Shoal Creek near the intersection of Route 69 (Exit 48) to Route 116 (Exit 40))

Beginning May 19, crews will begin construction of crossovers and emergency pull offs on I-35. These will be used during the next stage of construction when traffic is moved to two-way traffic in the southbound lanes.

Traffic Impacts: During construction, the interstate will be narrowed to one lane. A 12-foot width restriction will be in place. Motorists should expect delays.

Route 69 (from Shoal Creek near the intersection of I-35 to Route 116)

While the construction on I-35 is being completed, crews will also be paving Route 69.

Traffic Impacts: During paving, the roadway will be narrowed to one lane with flaggers guiding motorists through the area. A 10-foot width restriction will be in place. Motorists should expect delays.

Once the paving on Route 69 is completed, crews will move to I-35 to begin the resurfacing on the northbound lanes. At that time, interstate traffic will be shifted to two-way traffic on the southbound lanes. More details will be shared ahead of the traffic shift.

All work for this project must be completed on or before September 1, 2026.
