JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Beginning next week, one lane of eastbound Interstate 44 between Rolla and St. James will close in sections up to 2 miles in length beginning Sunday, April 13, at 11 p.m. Capital Paving & Construction LLC will be working to repair quality issues discovered in the fall of 2024 on the 8-mile section of new pavement, part of a $50.5M project that spans from west of Rolla to Cuba. A work zone will be in place weekly, beginning each Sunday, and remain in place around-the-clock through Friday morning, until all corrections are complete. Both lanes will be open during each weekend during the work.
To ensure the new roadway meets expected construction standards, and ensure the best quality product for Missouri’s taxpayers, MoDOT required the contractor to complete an in-depth concrete analysis and develop a plan to correct the issues.
“MoDOT is committed to delivering a quality product that will serve travelers for many years,” said Central District Engineer Machelle Watkins. “We recognize that means it is taking more time than previously anticipated on this project, and we appreciate the patience of the local communities.”
