HANNIBAL – The bridge rehabilitation project on the Interstate 72 Mark Twain Memorial Bridge near Hannibal has been delayed while further details of the work plan are finalized to minimize traffic impacts as much as possible. The project was scheduled to begin in mid-April, but it has been delayed until later this Spring. An exact start date is not available at this time.
When the rehabilitation work does begin, the initial traffic impacts will include reducing the lanes on I-72 to 12-foot lanes during the first few weeks of work. The bridge will then close for up to 30 days. To expedite the work, crews will work two shifts to replace the bearings on one end of the bridge's truss span. The closure period is dependent on weather and any work-related issues that may arise during bearing replacement. The Missouri Department of Transportation is working with the prime contractor, Millstone Weber, LLC of St. Charles, Missouri, on the work plan details, reviewing the engineering details and the timing to receive the fabricated steel components needed for the bridge repairs.
Once a definite date to start the work has been confirmed, details will be shared through message boards, news releases and social media. For more information on this project, contact Gerri Jeffries, Missouri Department of Transportation at gerri.jeffries@modot.mo.gov.
