MoDOT to host public meeting on proposed Safety Improvements for Route AC in Florissant

NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY- The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and St. Louis County invite the public to an open house-style meeting to discuss the proposed safety improvements on Route AC (New Halls Ferry Road). The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 20, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Florissant City Hall, 955 St. Francois St., Florissant, MO 63031.

These improvements are a part of the vital effort of the regional Safety Improvements Project in the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County, and Jefferson County.

During the last five years, there have been 1800 crashes, 5x the statewide average, including 20 fatal and/or serious crashes along Route AC from Shackleford Rd to Dunn Rd. Among the reported 1800 crashes, 600 occurred between Parker Spur and Dunn Rd.

MoDOT’s plan is to reduce crashes, especially those that result in serious or fatal injuries, along Route AC from Dunn Rd. to US Route 67 (Lindbergh Blvd.) and at the intersections of Vaile Ave. and Shackleford Rd.

This project will install several types of improvements, and the public will be able to learn more about these proposed safety features at the public meeting. One improvement involves installing islands on the shoulder to encourage slower driving. MoDOT will mark these proposed shoulder islands with paint and orange channelizers a week before the public meeting so drivers can visualize how this improvement will look. CMS boards and yard signs will also be in place with details about the public meeting.

No formal presentations will be made during the open house-style meeting. Attendees can stop by during the meeting to view the project details and speak with representatives from MoDOT, St. Louis County, and project consultants.

Access for people with disabilities is available. Those who require special services at the public meeting should notify Senior Communications Specialist Rachel V. Sudduth by March 13 at 314-343-7731 so arrangements can be made.
