Notice of Opportunity for Public Hearing on Bridge Improvements in Cape Girardeau County

Notice is hereby given to all interested persons that the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission is planning to replace the bridge on Route 61 over Hughes Creek, located approximately two miles north of Route CC in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri.

The Route 61 project involves removing and replacing the existing bridge, grading of a new roadway, pavement, and the addition of new guardrail. 

Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2015. Route 61 will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge for approximately three months as work is underway. Property owners adjacent to the bridge will continue to have access to their properties. A marked detour will be provided during construction. The proposed detour is as follows:

From the north: Route 61 south to Route KK, west on Route KK to I-55, south on I-55 to Route E, then east on Route E to Route 61

From the south: Route 61 north to Route E, west on Route E to I-55, north on I-55 to Route KK, then east on Route KK to Route 61

Maps, plans, and other information prepared by the Missouri Department of Transportation, or interested agency, will be available for public inspection and copying at the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Sikeston District office, 2675 N. Main Street, Sikeston, MO 63801.

Any person affected by this project may request that a public hearing be held in regard to the proposed improvements.  Requests for a public hearing shall be in writing and must be submitted to the District Engineer at P.O. Box 160, Sikeston, MO 63801, by September 1, 2014.
