Briefing to Discuss Upcoming Bridge Projects in New Madrid and Pemiscot Counties

SIKESTON-The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold an open-house community briefing from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, to discuss upcoming bridge projects in New Madrid and Pemiscot Counties. The briefing will be held at the Portageville Elementary School Gym, located at the corner of 12th Street and King Avenue.

"Visitors can stop-by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the details with a member of the project team and provide their comments," said Project Manager Eric Krapf.

Improvements to the Route TT bridge over Portage Bay located at the New Madrid/Pemiscot county line and the Route ZZ bridge over Drainage Ditch 53 located near Route F in New Madrid County will be discussed.

The Route TT project will include replacing the bridge deck. Additionally, the improved bridge will have a lower rail height to better accommodate agricultural traffic. The Route ZZ project will include replacing the existing bridge with a box culvert.

As the projects are underway, the bridges will remain closed. Construction is expected to begin in early spring 2012, with completion in mid-summer 2012.
