JACKSON AND CLAY COUNTIES - Crews with the Buck O’Neil Bridge project will switch northbound U.S. 169 traffic to the newly completed NB U.S. 169 bridge on Friday, Oct. 25. Work will begin on the traffic switch at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 and continue until 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. During this time, Northbound U.S. 169 will be CLOSED (9 p.m. on Oct. 24 until 3 p.m. on Oct. 25 approximately) while crews complete the switch. Northbound U.S. 169 traffic is currently on what will be the southbound U.S. 169 bridge.

Motorists traveling northbound on U.S. 169 should consider using I-29/I-35 (Christopher Bond Bridge) or find an alternate route during the traffic switch.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was recently held to celebrate the completion of the new Buck O’Neil Bridge structure. The previous Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge was built in 1956. Construction on the new bridge began in 2021 and is scheduled to be completed on time, at the end of 2024. The Buck O’Neil Bridge carries U.S. Route 169 traffic over the Missouri River and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
