Public input sought on replacing the Outer Road 44 bridge over Bear Creek in Laclede County

Online meeting with a two-week comment period running Oct. 22 through Nov. 5

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking community input on a Laclede County project. MoDOT is holding an online public meeting and two-week comment period on plans to replacement the Outer Road 44 bridge over Bear Creek. The online meeting will be active from Oct. 22 – Nov. 5, though the meeting materials will be available after the meeting has ended.

Built in 1923 and rehabilitated in 1972, the Outer Road 44 bridge over Bear Creek in Laclede County, is in poor condition, showing signs it has reached the end of its useful life, and in need of replacement. The plans for the new bridge, which will be the same width as the existing structure at 26 feet, include raising the bridge 8 inches to provide additional room for water to flow and installing new guardrail.

Construction of a new bridge will require a full roadway closure. No detour will be posted, but signs located well ahead of the closure will alert motorists to use an alternate route.
