TRAFFIC ALERT: New Traffic Pattern for Route 43/86 in Newton Co. Under I-44 Beginning Oct. 20

Where: Missouri Route 43/86 (Hearnes Boulevard/Main Street) under I-44 in Joplin

When: Beginning Sunday, October 20 through Friday, October 25

What: Contractor crews will CLOSE one lane of Route 43/86 (Hearnes Boulevard/Main Street) in both directions between the ramps at I-44 while contractor crews remove the bridge deck/driving surface on the westbound I-44 bridge overhead

Traffic impacts:

  • One driving lane of Route 43/86 (Hearnes Boulevard/Main Street) CLOSED in both directions at these times:
    • 4 p.m., Sunday, October 20 until 2 a.m., Monday, October 21
    • 4 p.m., Monday, October 21 until 2 a.m., Tuesday, October 22
    • 4 p.m., Tuesday, October 22 until 2 a.m., Wednesday, October 23
    • 4 p.m., Wednesday, October 23 until 2 a.m., Thursday, October 24
    • 4 p.m., Thursday, October 24 until 2 a.m., Friday, October 25
  • All driving lanes OPEN to traffic in both directions between 2 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day
  • North- and southbound left turn lanes remain CLOSED
  • East- and westbound Route 43/86-to-I-44 on ramps remain CLOSED
  • Both I-44 off-ramps at Exit 6 remain OPEN
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • Watch for equipment and crews entering and exiting the work zone
  • Drivers should consider alternate routes during the project
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.

This work is part of a project to rehabilitate the westbound I-44/Missouri Route 43/86 bridge (Exit 6) in Joplin.
