MoDOT Implements Travel Safe Zone on Route 63 in Howell and Oregon Counties

SIKESTON – The Missouri Department of Transportation and Missouri Highway Patrol Troop G are implementing a Travel Safe Zone on two sections of Route 63 south of West Plains, Missouri starting Monday, Nov. 4.

Travel Safe Zones will be designated on Route 63 south of West Plains, Missouri from County Road 8690 to south of County Road 9370 in Howell County and from County Road 366 to County Road 360 in Oregon County.

A Travel Safe Zone is being designated on Route 63 after a highway safety analysis showed the number of fatal or disabling injury crashes on this section of roadway was greater than the average on similar highways. MoDOT uses Travel Safe Zones to improve safety of a clearly defined roadway segment. Established by Missouri statute, Travel Safe Zones increase fines for moving violations and increase public awareness in an effort to reduce the number and severity of crashes in the Travel Safe Zone.
