CHESTERFIELD – In preparation for the upcoming winter season, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will hold its annual winter operations drills Wednesday, Oct. 9 and 10 and press conference on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Ballas Maintenance Facility, 12001 North Forty Dr. 63141.
During the drill, MoDOT snow vehicles will travel state highways and routes throughout the St. Louis area starting at 9 a.m.
During the press conference MoDOT leadership, along with staffers from the National Weather Service, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Illinois Department of Transportation, will brief the media on predictions and preparations for the winter season.
Fighting winter storms to get Missouri roads clear is one of the most critical functions of MoDOT. With every storm, every available snowplow operator will work 12-hour shifts covering 24 hours until the major roads are mostly clear after a storm ends.
When winter storms are in the forecast, MoDOT will communicate advance traveler information.
