UPDATE - Weekend Closure Scheduled for Missouri Route 47 over U.S. Route 61 at Troy

U.S. 61 Temporarily Reduced to One Lane - Expect Delays September 27-29

See scheduling changes below in bold.

HANNIBAL – Motorists on U.S. Route 61 are advised of lane closures resulting in expected delays due to the removal of the northern portion of the existing Route 47 bridge at the Troy interchange in Lincoln County. Weather permitting, Friday, September 27 beginning at 10 p.m. through Sunday, September 29 at 10 p.m., U.S. 61 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and traffic will be rerouted over the on/off ramps at the interchange. Traffic movements from U.S. 61 to MO 47 at the ramp terminals will be restricted to right turns only. In case of inclement weather, this work could be rescheduled on October 4-6

The Missouri Route 47 bridge over U.S. Route 61 will be closed to all traffic at the interchange during this time.

During the closure, a signed detour will divert traffic on the following routes:

  • MO 47 (Eastbound/Westbound) will use a signed detour over East Cherry Street to South Lincoln Drive then northbound to MO 47 or southbound to the South Lincoln Drive interchange. Travelers wishing to access U.S. 61 from MO 47 will utilize this detour.
  • U.S. 61 (Northbound) to MO 47 (Westbound toward Hawk Point) will utilize the South Lincoln Drive interchange to reach MO 47
  • U.S. 61 (Northbound/Southbound) traffic will be diverted up and over the existing interchange ramps
  • The U.S. 61 (Northbound) on-ramp at Old Cap Au Gris Road will be closed to traffic

Once the bridge removal is complete, construction will begin on the northern half of the new bridge. During this time, Missouri Route 47 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and include a 12-foot width restriction, from North Lincoln Drive to East Cherry Street. All traffic will be shifted to the existing southside of bridge. U.S. 61 off-ramp traffic will be restricted to right turns only at the ramp terminals onto MO 47. Motorists will utilize the signed detour in reaching their destinations. Stage 2 is scheduled to be complete by December 15, 2024.

The entire area of the interchange will be an active work zone over the next year. We would like to remind drivers to please slow down, obey all signs and eliminate distractions while driving. Signs and message boards will be in place to alert motorists, as schedule changes occur. MoDOT will alert the public about the project through signs, news releases and social media. We encourage you to view the Stage 2 Construction video to learn more about traffic impacts during this phase. Please visit the project website at www.modot.org/missouri-route-47-and-us-route-61-interchange-improvements-lincoln to view all project construction stage videos.

The $15.4M contract was awarded this summer to KCI Construction Company of St. Louis, MO. The project is scheduled to be completed by the Fall of 2025.
