Jackson City Park Entrance Closed as U.S. 61 Project Continues

SIKESTON – Work is currently underway on U.S. Route 61 in Jackson, Missouri from Parkview Street to North Hope Street. The project includes adding turn lanes at Mary Street and the Jackson City Park entrance, making pavement improvements and replacing the bridge over Hubble Creek at Jackson City Park. Utility upgrades are occurring simultaneously.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 12, the Jackson City Park entrance will be closed. The closure is needed to remove the existing pavement and re-grade the roadway to match the elevation of the new bridge. When completed, the entrance will be relocated to the south.

During the entrance closure, motorists should use the marked detour on Route 72, Farmington Road and Route D. The relocated entrance is expected to reopen Tuesday, Oct. 1, weather permitting.

The U.S. 61 construction project is expected to be completed in early November, weather permitting.

The work zones will be marked with signs and message boards. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
