JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Starting at 7 p.m. on July 15, a half-mile section of U.S. Route 54 in Jefferson City, south of the Missouri River, will narrow to one lane in each direction. This traffic shift for bridge rehabilitation work is expected to cause significant delays and travelers from outside the area are encouraged to use an alternate route, while local traffic is advised to avoid peak hours, if possible.
Those who drive this short section of U.S. Route 54 as part of their daily commute are advised to avoid peak hours and plan for extra travel time. This work is expected to continue through mid-October.
Those who are traveling to or from the Lake of the Ozarks region, or elsewhere, are encouraged to use an alternate route, which will vary based on the specific starting point and destination. Example alternate routes:
- North (Moberly, Macon): U.S. Route 63 south to I-70 west to either Missouri Route 5 or Missouri Route 87.
- Northeast (Hannibal): U.S. Route 61 south to Missouri Route 47 to I-44 to Missouri Route 7.
- East (St. Louis-region): I-44 to Route 7, or I-44 to U.S. Route 50 to Missouri Route 28 to Route 42.
