Route 7 Traffic Shifted Head-to-Head Over Big Creek Overflow Near Clinton Beginning Week of June 24

Henry County – Drivers can expect one-lane traffic and travel delays when a project to replace two southbound bridges Missouri Route 7 over Big Creek Overflow west of Clinton begins the week of June 24, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The bridges, originally built in 1974, carry approximately 16,000 vehicles per day and are in a deteriorating condition.

Beginning the week of June 24, contractor crews will close the north- and southbound passing (left) lanes, to work on refurbishing existing crossover lanes on Route 7. Then, beginning the week of July 1, southbound Route 7 traffic will be shifted head-to-head onto the northbound lanes and will remain in this configuration for the duration of the project.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Route 7 traffic shifted head-to-head over Big Creek Overflow west of Clinton
  • Expect delays during high traffic volume times
  • Only one lane open in each direction
  • Speed limit reduced to 60 mph through the work zone
  • No signed detours
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • Drivers should consider alternate routes during the project
