Public input sought on Route C bridge replacement

MoDOT to host public meeting, two-week comment period

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is hosting a public meeting and comment period for a project to replace the Washington County Route C bridge over Big River near Belgrade. Interested parties will have the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and provide input about the project.

The 90-year-old bridge is in poor condition and showing signs that it’s nearing the end of its life cycle. It is narrower than today’s standards, and in need of replacement, a grade raise, and realignment. The plans for the new bridge include improvements that will enhance safety, drivability, and traffic flow. These improvements are expected to take place in 2025 with an estimated cost of $2.77 million (subject to change).

The in-person open-house style public meeting will take place at Caledonia’s Village Barn on June 27, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. There will be no formal presentation, so attendees may come and go as they please during the meeting. Members of the project team will be on hand to explain details of the proposed project, answer questions, and receive feedback from the public. Online participation is also available at https://www.modot.org/route-c-bridge-replacement-washington. All displays from the meeting will be available online and website visitors may ask questions and make comments about the project via an online form during the two-week open comment period, June 27 – July 11, 2024.

Written comments will also be accepted and should be postmarked on or before July 11, 2024, addressed to:
