Interchange Improvements Begin on Missouri Route 47 at U.S. Route 61 in Lincoln County

Lane Restrictions Scheduled Along Route 47 for Pavement Construction

HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, construction is scheduled to begin the week of June 24 on an intersection improvement project on Missouri Route 47, at U.S. Route 61 at Troy in Lincoln County.

This improvement project will replace the existing bridge over U.S. 61 and modify the interchange to a diverging diamond design that will navigate traffic volumes more efficiently, similar to the interchange at Mid Rivers Mall Drive at Interstate 70. Over the course of the project, major improvements on Missouri 47 will include:

  • Bridge replacement and widening the bridge deck over U.S. 61
  • Corridor improvements from Turnbull Trail to East Cherry Street/Wilson Road, including two dedicated lanes in each direction
  • An ADA-compliant pedestrian walkway
  • Relocation of the Frenchman Bluff Road intersection

The initial phase of construction will include:

  • The installation of new and temporary pavement around the interchange, ramps, and Missouri 47 east of interchange.
  • A new entrance to the businesses (gas station and restaurant) on the southeast corner of the intersection, which will be relocated just east of the current location. The existing entrance will remain open until the new entrance is complete.

Traffic impacts during stage 1 of construction will include a 10-foot lane restriction on Missouri 47 from North Lincoln Drive to East Cherry Street.

“The entire area of the interchange will be an active work zone over the next year. We would like to remind drivers to please slow down, obey all signs and eliminate distractions while driving. The safety of the traveling public and our workers is our top priority,” stated Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Jeff Niemeyer. Signs and message boards will be in place to alert motorists, as schedule changes occur. MoDOT will alert the public about the project through signs, news releases and social media. As the project moves forward, additional information will be available on the project website at www.modot.org/missouri-route-47-and-us-route-61-interchange-improvements-lincoln

The $15.4M contract was awarded this earlier this month to KCI Construction Company of St. Louis, MO.
