Temporary roundabout planned in Maryville for signal maintenance

Intersections of U.S. Routes 71, 136 and Route 46

St. Joseph, Mo. – Scheduled maintenance for the signals at the intersection of U.S. Route 71 with U.S. Route 136 and Missouri State Route 46 (The Bypass) in Maryville is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11. Crews will be updating traffic signal lighting, making traffic detection camera improvements, and repainting pavement markings.

To allow crews to complete the scheduled maintenance, the intersection will be converted to a temporary roundabout. Directing traffic through a temporary roundabout will allow crews to work continuously on multiple upgrades and repairs at the intersection, reducing the overall time of the project and impact of travelers.

The intersection between the signals will be barricaded and inaccessible. This will allow motorists to move around the intersection. Access to all routes will be maintained during this period. Visit https://www.modot.org/media/47729 to view an image of the roundabout set up.

Work schedule is as follows for Tuesday, June 11:

5:30-7 a.m.: Roundabout set up - during this time, there will be intermittent closures in each direction and MoDOT crews and local law enforcement will be guiding motorists through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the intersection during this time, if possible.

7 a.m-6:30 p.m..: Roundabout is in place – motorists can utilize roundabout to access all intersection routes.

  • Route 71 – north and southbound lanes will narrow using traffic cones headed into the roundabout.
  • Route 46/136 – east and westbound turn lanes will be closed. Traffic will be directed into the roundabout to access east/westbound routes.

6:30-8 p.m.: Roundabout tear down – during this time, there will be intermittent closures in each direction and MoDOT crews and local law enforcement will be guiding motorists through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the intersection during this time, if possible.
