HANNIBAL – Drivers utilizing the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge on Interstate 72, over the Mississippi River in Hannibal, will see activity as early as May 20 as work begins on a bridge rehabilitation project. Minimal traffic impacts can be expected while shoulder work is completed over the next few weeks.
Beginning mid-June, motorists can expect delays as traffic will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction in place where crews are actively working. All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change. Signs and message boards will be in place to alert motorists, as schedule changes occur.
Olympus Painting Contractors, Inc. was awarded the contract in June 2022 in the amount of $818,799. The bridge is expected to be complete by July 1, 2024.
For the safety of the crews and the traveling public, we would like to remind drivers to be attentive in work zones and make smart, safe driving choices behind the wheel, including putting down your cell phone to eliminate distractions.
