UPDATE: Missouri Route 163 in Columbia to narrow beginning Thursday night

Pavement repair to close one lane of Providence Road

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A resurfacing project is coming to Missouri Route 163 in Columbia. The first part of the project, pavement repair, is now scheduled to begin Thursday, April 25, 2024. At their December 2023 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded Capital Paving & Construction, LLC (Capital) a $5,506,594.12 contract to resurface 5.33 miles of Providence Road from Route K/Old Plank Road to Interstate 70.

Originally scheduled to begin Monday, April 22, Capital and their subcontractors now expect to start pavement repairs Thursday night, April 25, in preparation for the asphalt resurfacing. Crews will begin on the south end of Providence Road, near Route K/Old Plank Road and progress north towards I-70. Work will continue nightly Monday through Friday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for approximately 10 working days. Motorists should expect delays.

Following the pavement repair, crews plan to work on the concrete traffic barrier and guardrail before resurfacing begins in June. In addition, a right turn lane will be added at the intersection of northbound Providence Road and Veterans United Drive. The project is expected to continue through August.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
