Rural route resurfacing project to begin tomorrow in DeKalb County

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A project focused on resurfacing low volume rural routes in several counties across Northwest Missouri is scheduled to begin tomorrow. Herzog Contracting Corp., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, March 27, in DeKalb County milling on Route D. Flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone during milling.

Once milling is complete, crews will begin resurfacing at the intersection of Route Z and work toward Missouri Route 6, closing the roadway daily from dawn to dusk in segments approximately 2 miles in length Monday, April 1 through Wednesday, April 10. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route during the intermittent closures.

These resurfacing projects are included as part of Gov. Parson’s Rural Road program. With the Governor’s signing of the Fiscal Year 2024 budget, an additional $100 million in General Revenue is available for Missouri’s low volume rural roads. Using asset management data, the Missouri Department of Transportation has identified 1,567 lane miles of low volume roads ranked in Poor Condition. These locations will receive resurfacing treatments of hot mix asphalt to improve the road conditions. The roads are being bundled into several large contracts across the state. The remaining routes are tentatively scheduled to be resurfaced on the following dates:

  • DeKalb County Route F – April 22-May 5.
  • Andrew County Route V from U.S. Route 169 to Route 6 in DeKalb County – April 22-May 13.
  • Buchanan County Route Z – October 7-28.

This project is scheduled to be completed by November 2024.
