Rural route resurfacing project to begin in DeKalb County

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A project focused on resurfacing low volume rural routes in several counties across Northwest Missouri is scheduled to begin next week. Herzog Contracting Corp., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will begin work in DeKalb County on a portion of Route E on Wednesday, March 20.

These resurfacing projects are included as part of Gov. Parson’s Rural Road program. With the Governor’s signing of the Fiscal Year 2024 budget, an additional $100 million in General Revenue is available for Missouri’s low volume rural roads. Using asset management data, the Missouri Department of Transportation has identified 1,567 lane miles of low volume roads ranked in Poor Condition. These locations will receive resurfacing treatments of hot mix asphalt to improve the road conditions. The roads are being bundled into several large contracts across the state. For more information on the Governor’s Rural Roads Program, visit Governor's Rural Roads Program | Missouri Department of Transportation (modot.org).

Crews will begin work at the intersection of DeKalb Route E and Route A, working east toward U.S. Route 69, closing the roadway daily from dawn to dusk in segments approximately 2 miles in length through Friday, March 29. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route during the intermittent closures.

The remaining routes will be resurfaced later this spring. Dates for the additional routes will be shared near the scheduled start dates. The routes included in this project are:

  • Andrew Route RA
  • Andrew Route T
  • Andrew Route BB
  • Andrew Route P
  • DeKalb Route A
  • DeKalb Route H
  • Clinton Route 31

All eight routes are anticipated to be complete by the end of October 2024.
