JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – The intersection of Callaway County Route Z and Wood Street in Fulton, Mo has been the site of many crashes which have continued despite the implementation of several traffic control safety measures. To increase safety and reduce crashes, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is implementing a new 4-way stop at this Callaway County intersection.
MoDOT has installed multiple safety measures including additional warning signs and flashers in all directions at the intersection. Despite these efforts, over the past five years, the intersection has seen three crashes that caused serious injuries, and three additional crashes that resulted in minor injuries. After evaluating several options, data points to a 4-way stop as the safest solution that meets the needs of the area.
Currently, only traffic on Wood Street is required to stop. Beginning with the installation of new signs, tentatively scheduled for March 11, drivers on Route Z will also be required to come to a stop at the intersection. As drivers adjust to this new traffic pattern, MoDOT urges all drivers to stay alert and exercise caution when navigating the intersection.
