Updated Pedestrian and Bicycle Funding Opportunities Table

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) updated the Pedestrian and Bicycle Funding Opportunities Table. See https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/bicycle_pedestrian/funding/funding_opportunities.pdf.  This table indicates likely eligibility for pedestrian and bicycle activities and projects under U.S. Department of Transportation surface transportation funding programs.

 

Note:  The November 2023 link is the same as the September 2022 link. If you see the September 2022 version, then your computer cached the old table. Refresh (perhaps several times, and/or delete your cache), and you should see the November 2023 version.

 

Revisions include:

  • Reorganized the program order.
  • Added the Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program and SMART Programs.
  • Included the Neighborhood Access and Equity Program eligibility under Reconnecting Communities.
  • Removed the FTA Associated Transit Improvement program (requirement was repealed).
  • Added activity or project types:
    • Charging stations for electric bicycles and scooters
    • Encouragement and education activities
    • Public education and awareness programs
    • Technical assistance
  • Revised a few categories:
    • Several project types added eligibility for electric outlets and charging.
    • Landscaping: added shade trees.
    • Resilience, Spot Improvements, Stormwater: revised for clarity.
  • Some programs had revisions for eligible activities: mostly additions, few deletions.
  • Reorganized the Program-specific notes to group by agency.
  • Revised text of some Program-specific notes: PLAN, Tribal programs, and NHTSA.
