Missouri Route 28 in Maries County to close for bridge replacement project

Dry Fork Creek Bridge scheduled to close Nov. 27

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Missouri Route 28 in Maries County is set to close at the end of November for the replacement of the Dry Fork Creek Bridge. Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation anticipate restricting all access to the bridge, located south of Belle, beginning on Monday, Nov. 27.

Built in 1929, the bridge is in poor condition and has reached the end of its useful life. During the project, the nearly 2,100 motorists who use the route each day will be directed around the closure on a signed detour over U.S. Route 63 and Missouri Route 42. The bridge replacement is scheduled to be completed in April 2024.

MoDOT contracted with Lehman Construction, LLC to complete this work and two additional bridge rehabilitations. The Maries County Route C Peavine Creek Bridge and the Maries County Route P Lanes Fork Creek Bridge will both have their decks replaced. Work on Route P is currently ongoing and expected to be completed Dec. 8, 2023. Work on Route C will not begin until Route 28 is reopened.

Each of these projects will require full road closures, with all three expected to be completed by mid-2024. All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
